Elle marchait vite en parlant fort en anglais, il la suivait. À son fort accent français, on pouvait deviner qu’il ne comprenait pas tout ce qu’elle racontait.

Non, je ne me trouve pas à Paris, mais en Wallonie. Et Châtelet ici en Belgique n’a pas grand chose à voir avec Châtelet là-bas en France. Ici, il n’y a que des terrils abandonnés, pas de galeries marchandes grouillantes. Que des maisons ouvrières qui s’alignent, résignées, pas de bistrot parisien où claqueraient des billards. Et une seule ligne de train avec sa gare déserte où il m’arrive de descendre de temps à autre.
No I’m not in Paris, but in Wallonie. And Châtelet here in Belgium does not have anything to do with Châtelet there in France. Here, there are only abandoned slag heaps, no swarming shopping mall. Only rows of resigned workers’ houses, no Parisian café where billiards would bang. And only one train line with its lonely station where I sometimes get off.

Il faisait vraiment chaud ce dimanche après-midi là et je me demandais comment elle faisait pour rester allonger comme ça en plein soleil. Même l’ombre sous son transat avait l’air de transpirer.
